Another of the ‘big four’ portals has reported record traffic levels this month.

Zoopla says it had three million visitors in the second week of January, with over 450,000 in a single day, marking a new daily record for the property website by some margin.

A week ago, Rightmove also saw record traffic levels.

Like Rightmove, Zoopla is reporting a sharp increase in the number of users of its mobile apps. It says these now represent nearly 15% of all its traffic volumes.

Zoopla recently announced the launch of its biggest national advertising campaign to date, including TV, radio and print adverts, plus hundreds of Zoopla-branded taxis in London.

The Zoopla advertising push to raise awareness of the brand comes with a similarly high-profile campaign by FindaProperty, part of the Daily Mail owned Digital group which is due to merge with Zoopla, to mount what the two businesses call a credible challenge to Rightmove.A TV campaign for Digital's Primelocation is due to start next month.

Rightmove is also currently advertising on TV, continuing its successful (and somewhat majestic) ‘Britain moves at Rightmove’ campaign, first launched last spring.

    @Puzzled

    100% agree - all the agents were back to work and started hunting down their competitors properties, thats all it was. The market as far as owner occupiers is concerned is still a bit slow.

    With that many visitors there's a wonder we couldn't hear the collective laughter of these visitors as they discovered a property's asking price was set exactly 20% higher than the zoopla mid price valuation.

    A, landing page with 450,000 hits per day is a profitable business in itself.

    Things a bit slow today, then work out the click through rate, average click through per 1000 visitors, and the rates. This should give you an idea of how much revenue just that side of the advertising generates, not including ad placement, banners etc.....

    All this info is freely available on line, and a delve into this business may provide a few pointers on how to market your own website better for your own dedicated area and gain more prospective customers, without spending ever increasing amounts on the megaportals.

    It would appear that looking at houses for sale on property portals is the nation's latest obsession.

    Buying and selling houses certainly isn't - yet the traffic levels go up and up and up. Wonder how many times the thousands of people working in estate agency hit the portals each day.
