For those who may have missed this week's little rumpus, we’d just like to award marks in the Twitter -battle between the First Lady of Finance versus the Queen of Property.

It started when TV’s Kirstie Allsopp decided to tweet out some comments about Melanie Bien, director of communications at Private Finance.

Location, Location, Location presenter Allsopp may have thought she hit the spot as she watched Bien on Breakfast TV and tweeted a comment worthy of Sky Sports: “Finance woman on BBC breakfast clearly came directly from a night out & it’s debatable whether that’s a skirt or not –hard to take seriously.”

Bien later tweeted back: “No, as a mother of 18-month-old, no nights out and I was wearing a dress, not a skirt.”

Allsopp did not apologise but came back with: “I’m no saint. I do think, say & tweet mean things and I am as capable as anyone of hypocrisy, and my spelling is dodgy.” [Don’t worry, dear, EAT has corrected it.]

One Bien supporter tweeted: “I find it really sad that women are so critical of each other re appearance. It just wouldn’t happen with men.”

Others jumped into the fray, including Rob Jupp, managing director of Brightstar Financial, who tweeted in Bien’s support: “Just caught the end of this and I think this is scandalous that such a comment has been made. You are a wonderful ambassador for us all and I saw you this morning and thought you looked great!”

Drew Wotherspoon, director of marketing at John Charcol, also tweeted: “I’ll send Ray [Boulger] in a dress next time so she can really have something to talk about … ridiculous.”

Kirstie Allsopp recently got into a Twitter- row with Sir Alan Sugar, who blasted her a ‘lying cow’ in an astonishing online spat, during which the bearded knight also told her to lose weight  – now, how sexist is that?

But anyway, we think the latest Twitter- row has earned Kirstie no points, whilst Melanie has scored an effortless ten out of ten.

Estate agents, by the way, may remember Allsopp as the expert dripping with gravitas who was chosen to advise the Conservative party on its housing policy and help it get out an all-important report.

And what happened to that report, you may well ask?

Tweet all!

I saw Melanie on TV. Without wishing to sound like Andy Gray or Richard Keys, from my male viewpoint, she looked glam and glitzy. Shimering purple dress, black tights and bright red high heels. Started my day well!

    Kirsty who?

Should she be considering the viability of projectile emissions in localtion, location, locations of vitreous material?

@Anna Key thank you for the advice, I have actually just got my life back, 12 -16 hours a day, 7 days a week I simply love what I do. I tried to be retired, great for 3 months then it drove me nuts!
@wg actually those that know me will know that I was upset at being blamed. Someone is playing stupid mind games not realising it is just making me stronger.

Miss Allsopp can say what she likes. I saw her once on location location location in a brown skirt, high heals and green tights. Any woman who can pull that off gets my vote. It has also recently come to light that she can cook as well.......what a girl! what a girl!

I don't know you, you are probably a wonderful, enthralling raconteur but for gawd's sake get a life .... that's far too much drivel for a rainy Saturday morning.

My considered response to your post Boring?
Thank you, for giving Jupix Ltd the opportunity to get yet another plug on Estate Agent Today.
Thank you, for giving me the opportunity show Rosalind Renshaw an example of the little digs I am on getting on daily basis.
In one little post you have given me the strength and determination to ensure that I finish what you have started!
I am delighted that you think I am such a threat that you need to attempt schoolboy bully tactics. What would did you think would happen, the Estate Agent Today posters would turn on me? Greater and better men than me have had their roasting on here.
Very few people know who I am, fewer people care and even fewer people had ever heard of Jupix, (Advert) who for 5 years have been supplying Web based Estate Agency and lettings software, but thanks to you Boring I have been given the opportunity to plug Jupix Ltd inside an EAT story about the beautiful Kirstie Allsop. I can plug the fact we have full ledger client cash accounting. Best of all I can say that anyone who wants to improve their marketing and lettings capabilities can keep a couple of screens of CFPwinMan out the back and have the sales and lettings negotiators using Jupix winning new business in the front office; in the car outside appointments, at home in front of the telly, wherever really! A proven migration routine ensures all the landlords properties and tenants come across so there is no re-keying of data.
I reckon that you have done everyone a favour mate. People can stop their support of CFP knowing that Jupix can call on 4 good ex cfp staff to help with the odd accounts query or training. They won’t need to replace that expensive SQL server or CAL licence but the sharp of their business can immediately benefit from using our powerful marketing suite to win new business.
10 words? Pah! I reckon there will be a few people very interested in the 386 I have written here even if it is just to see why everyone is talking suddenly talking about Jupix.
Why was Jupix such a secret for so long? Your competitors didn’t want you to know their advantage!
    Thanks Boring!

You ain't one of us buddy! Robert has given us all a very bright future. Every department he has looked at is thriving.

Let me guess you are the chap that is stalking him. He has a good idea who it is, probably the one who has said the latest redundancies at CFP are his fault! Both of his most reliable staff are up for the chop and whoever reckons that is down to him joining Jupix.

The customers are loving his influence, the staff are loving his guidance and Oliver is loving the rocket growth in his business.

His Tweets are a successful replacement for PR and advertising that EAT and Property drum have not run. Our customers are commenting that they like his Tweets and if you were Jupix staff you would know that.

I will guess you are GMG staff who are trying to discredit a genuinely nice bloke. Robert does tweet a lot but none of it is without a benefit to Jupix.

Robert May - having worked with you since October, I would respectfully request Twitter bring their word count down to 10 words maximum to save us all.

It's just an opinion, an observation, whatever, who cares? And why bother replying? Rather silly of all these other people to wade in!

I thought it was actually a fairly amusing slur! Could have been worse!

    Have profitable weekends everyone!

Allsop is right in so far as she has no room to talk

Her dress sense is often as questionable as the drivel she spouts

The Honourable Kirstie Allsopp is the daughter of Charles Henry Allsopp, 6th Baron Hindlip.

No wonder Dismal Dave gave her a job.

I am not one for the limelight but have lots to say.
Tweeting is a good way of delivering a point without all the waffle, being dyslexic I find that 140 characters isn’t enough space to make too many mistakes.
There is lots of underground news flying around Twitter so it essential to have a strict Social networking policy in place so that company and personal opinions and posts are clearly separated.
My guess is that even though the principals of firms don’t Tweet, most of their staff do.

Why do people tweet at all when someone is bound to disagree with

If you tweet with the same professionalism as on a valuation or a viewing it is a great way to stay in touch and a great way to advertise.

The folk we have got our software from allow us to tweet all our properties to the tweeting applicants.

    Even EAT tweets

    Old Agent

I'm with you, I don't get it either! Nothing beats a face to face or at least phone to phone proper conversation with a client or prospective purchaser.

The written word is fraught with dangers and spelling is the least of them.

Why do people tweet at all when someone is bound to disagree with them and it can end up like this?

Maybe I'm buying my head in the sand but I just don't get the advantage of facebook and twitter for business.

I'm going on a trainign course next week, maybe I'll understabnd it better then.

What percentage of agents use new social media? And with what results? Does it produce business or pass the time waiting for the phone to ring?

I don't know why people take any notice of Kirstie Allsopp, or Sarah Beeny for that matter.

They're TV presenters when all's said and done. Its clear from the things they say what they know about the property market. And it isn't very much.

    Style over substance, basically.
