Greek property buyers are house-hunting in London as they try to escape the economic chaos and street riots of their home country, says top-end agent W.A. Ellis.

Partner Simon Godson said: “In the last few weeks, we have seen significant new interest in the London property market from Greeks looking not just for a safe home for their money but, in some cases, literally a safe home.

“I expect that some of the bigger transactions in the first half of this year will involve Greek nationals. Many are now finding themselves competing with cautious Portuguese and Spaniards, some of whom fear that their countries are next.

“London looks very attractive to many in mainland Europe at present.”
