Douglas & Gordon has opened a new sales and lettings office in Southfields, on the edge of south-west London.

It is the firm’s second opening of the year, and is also the second Douglas & Gordon branch to sport a ‘Microsoft Surface Table’ – the sort of thing that could spark a bad case of estate agent envy.

This table, which is like a large iPad, is a new way for applicants to search for a suitable properties.

The technology is linked to the Douglas & Gordon website which can also be viewed interactively. There are a number of useful features, such as Google Earth.

Users can also make bookings with restaurants and other local amenities, although we do wonder how many prospective house hunters will also use the opportunity to book their next hairdressing appointment.

Could be a good opportunity to log onto my favourite website, Hunkyestateagents.com without the wife catching me.

Jeroen, please don't confuse D&G with Foxtons! Have you ever been to a D&G branch and gained some of their insight/ knowledge?

Well done to D&G and hope it all goes well. The surface table sounds great and will be a talking point.

I remember those who said "Internet? - it will never catch on"

You don't know if you don't try !

This sort of stuff never works - after a while they get scratched and hard to maintain - have just whipped all this kind of stuff out of our offices over the last year or two - the truth is you need good staff not gimmicks

Another foxtons-style gimmick. Do buyers/vendors/tenants/landlords really care about having an estate agent which can be confused with a bar, or in this case an internet cafe?!
