There were 95,460 completed UK residential property transactions in September, HMRC has reported.

This was a fall from 107,070 in August, and lower than the 98,500 HMRC reported for July.

The figure compares with the 150,000 monthly transactions that HMRC recorded at the peak of the market in 2007.

The HMRC figure also compares with the latest Land Registry transaction data, which is for June, when it said there were 60,168 transactions in England and Wales. According to HMRC there were just over 91,000 that month.
