EAT would love to know how many people can equal or beat the achievement of Ian Beagley who has clocked up 40 years of continuous employment with the same estate agent.

Beagley, 56, started work at Kent-based Ibbett Mosely at 16 as an office junior before climbing the ranks to become a branch manager.

When he started, the average selling price of a two-bed, mid-terrace house in the Westerham area of Kent, where he is now manager, was £5,000. It’s now around £240,000.

He reckons people behaved better in those days during the transaction process: they shook hands on deals and didn’t then try to haggle.

Beagley is, astonishingly, not quite unique in his firm. His colleague, Derek Hodge, has chalked up 50 years in the auction department of Ibbett Mosely.

We know of partners and proprietors who have stayed with their firms for decades. But we also know of plenty of estate agency firms that have changed their names, structures and ownerships beyond recognition in the last 40 years.

We wonder how rare it must be for members of staff to stay for so long with recognisably the same employer?

Let us know if you can equal that, do better or know someone who is still in harness for the same employers.

The Lone Ranger: I would respectfully suggest that the author meant by sending in details so that a follow-up story could be published...

@ Pee Bee - The Author of the article said "Let us know if you can equal that, do better or know someone who is still in harness for the same employers."

That is exactly what has been posted.

with all due respect to those individuals who have been mentioned by others - this story is about the achievement of Mr Beagley.

Rather than hijack HIS moment of fame - write a story about people who achieved similar terms of service and try to get it published yourself!

Well done, Mr Beagley. Here's to the next ten years or so in a job you clearly love!!

I take my hat off to these guys for sticking it out that long.. Personally, the thought of stagnating in the same job for that length of time depresses me. The happiest people I know are creative thinkers who put their x!+@ on the line time and time again. Win or lose they are always more content not knowing whats around the corner. Life is for living after all!

One of the most amazing Estate agents in the UK has to be Eric Murch FRICS working with Bradshaw Henderson in Heswall Wirral. Whilst he may not have been with the same firm all his working days he has been an agent on the Wirral since his early 20s. Eric is quite the most remarkable character as bright as a button in his 90th year. He puts many to shame continuing to list and sell residential property every day of his life.
