A Manchester agent has been prosecuted by Bury Council Trading Standards for falsely claiming membership of the NAEA and ARLA.

NFoPP reports in its weekly newsletter that its regulation department was made aware by another NAEA member that Crossley Countrywide were advertising membership of the NAEA via the logo on their advertisements and stationery. Further investigations revealed that they were also claiming on their website to be members of the NAEA and ARLA.

After twice writing to the company and receiving no written response, NFoPP reported the company to the local Trading Standards authority.

Trading Standards investigated and obtained a statement from NFoPP which was used in the prosecution under the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008.

The company was fined £400 with costs of £671.

A new website for the agents now appears to be under construction.
