Small bedroom Here's how to make the most of It

So, you'd have preferred a bigger bedroom in your otherwise perfect new home.

But don't let a modest-sized room dampen your spirits; moving house is an exciting time and the great news is there are plenty of things you can do to maximise the space. Here are our top tips:

Say No to Clutter:

This goes without saying, of course, but eliminate unnecessary clutter from your bedroom and it'll immediately seem larger. Can you store those odds and ends, or old bedding and pillows in wicker baskets under the bed, for instance If your bed's too low, consider storing your bits and bobs in another room, or do the wise thing and have a cull. You can whack a load of things on eBay and make some money in the process, or donate your old stuff to a local charity shop in the name of space saving.

Choose Clever Storage Solutions:

When it comes to making the most of a small space, the key is height, not width. So, rather than choosing those wide shelves which take up too much wall room, instead opt for a narrow tall cabinet or shelf which gives you the same amount of space to play with, and ensures you can fit in other pieces of furniture around it. Can you make more of your wardrobe, too Buy those clever coat hangers which feature 10 or more holes, which double up as storage for your scarves, ties and belts. Or try one of those plastic storage holders for placing shoes, or storing other trinkets like jewellery. This frees up space in the bottom of your wardrobe, leaving ample room for storing bigger items like those spare pillows, and that old sleeping bag. When moving into a new home or decorating your existing bedroom, the tendency can be to go for a standard sized double.
