A former heroin and crack cocaine addict who now works as an estate agent in Buckinghamshire has achieved her ambition to give a homeless friend a permanent roof over this head.

Lara Wadey - a part-time agent at the Hartwell Partnership in Aylesbury since 2006 - says she was in and out of rehab for several years in a bid to beat her drug addictions, as well as suffering from anorexia.

She has been clean for over a decade but last year met Paul Herridge, a homeless drug addict who had recently been released from prison.

At first he didn't trust me, but because I had been there he's willing to listen. You had this guy who was homeless and no one was willing to help him. There should be some sort of stepping stone to get him back into the community she says.

Wadey - who says her time as an addict was hell - asked a landlord contact of hers whether he would consider accepting Herridge as a tenant and

The landlord agreed and Herridge now has a permanent rented home and is working. Without her I wouldn't be here now, I'd be back in prison or worse he says.

Completely wowed by this amazing story. If only more estate agents were this kind and honest.
