The newest of the three official ombudsman-style services - the Property Redress Scheme - has now passed the 3,000 individual membership mark.

Like Ombudsman Service: Property and The Property Ombudsman, the is authorised by the Department of Communities and Local Government and the National Trading Standards Estate Agency Team in Powys.

PRS claims that prior to October 2014 - from which membership of a redress scheme became mandatory for letting agents, as it has been for some time for estate agents - it had been estimated that there were between 3,000 and 4,000 letting agents outside redress schemes.

PRS claims that this suggests that the majority of previously unregistered Agents have chosen to join the PRS although there is no independent verification of this.

I think pieces like this just go to show how important 'spin' is. We've heard barely anything from Ombudsman Services: Property and figures like this would make one assume that PRS has more members and is better, but who really knows PR is important to agents, too!
