George Osborne's root-and-branch reform of stamp duty has not stopped all the calls for the levy to be changed further - now there is a call for regionalised duty.

Removals company Bishop's Move wants next week's Budget to announce the introduction of a regionalised duty to encourage the populous to move to areas other than the main towns and cities which would in reality ease prices in areas such as London and stimulate regional economic growth.

The Budget, to be delivered to the Commons next Wednesday, is a chance for the government to achieve greater home ownership by the young, which has halved in the last 20 years according to the firm's managing director, Alistair Bingle.

Failure to do so will put the government in a position where it looks like it is undermining its previous attempts to kick-start the property market he claims.

Unfortunately, I agree with the consensus that this is a nice idea that is doomed to failure.

Making business, culture, the arts, politics and pretty much everything else much less London-centric would definitely help, but I can't see that happening anytime soon.

Yep, I can't see this happening either. Nice sentiment, but unlikely to pan out in reality.

A nice idea but can't see it happening, ever. Good pun headline by the way!
