The dominance of Rightmove in the ever-more competitive portals market has been hammered home by its claim that rightmove.co.uk recorded its highest-ever number of pages view on Sunday January 11.

The portal is not releasing exact figures for reasons of commercial confidentiality, but based on the first 13 days of January, it claims visits are over 10 per cent higher than for the comparable period last year - a reflection of a stronger market.

These early indicators of increased property interest, combined with estate agents reporting low stocks of appealing property in popular locations, should give encouragement to prospective sellers according to Rightmove director Miles Shipside.

The portal's monthly index, based on asking prices advertised on Rightmove itself, shows that the price of property coming to market has risen 1.4 per cent or £3,798 in the past month - a period where, traditionally, asking prices fall.

Part of the reason is what the portal calls historically low stock levels - currently 10 per cent below this time last year.

New seller numbers are up two per cent on last year, the highest weekly run-rate over this period for several years.

Maybe. But I'd hazard a guess that very few people outside of the property sphere would have heard of OTM/AM, whereas quite a few would have heard of Zoopla. That is the biggest thing OTM need to overcome, getting their brand awareness up to Rightmove and Zoopla levels.

Here we go the PR battle commences. I'm sure Zoopla will launch something or release some traffic figures this week...My thinking is that althougth there are still many fence-sitters. for Zoopla at least a lot of damage has already been done. This time next week we will all be looking at OnTheMarket and it does seem that Zoopla is going to take a significant hit.

Seems a little coincidental that the week preceding On The Market's launch Rightmove reveals all about their growth and dominance in the industry. Still, if these numbers are to be believed then Rightmove really is the portal to beat!

Page hits are high on popular search engines that require you to enter search criteria on multiple search pages rather than inputting all your search criteria in one simple step...on one page.

Oh, what a surprise! Rightmove announce the highest ever page views - just prior to the launch of OTM and coincidentally just as my annual "pull your trousers down and just accept what's coming" Rightmove subscription increase letter arrives on the mat....

Goodness, they are so transparent and I don't believe a word of it. And, for the doubters out there, I have not joined OTM, yet.....

And what are you on about The property portals debate and anything to do with online versus traditional gets people talking like nothing else. They are both very divisive topics, with strong opinions on both sides. They are arguably the two biggest issues facing the property industry at the moment, so of course the majority of articles are going to be about it.

Any article to do with the portals garners the most comments, no matter how much you want to say otherwise. With the imminent launch of OTM, that will continue to be the case.

Graham Norwood. Do you cover any property news that is not about On-Line Agents or Property Portals Judging from the lack of comments on your articles there is little interest in most of what you write. Please broaden your horizons
