Eric Walker has stepped down as managing director of Bushells after its acquisition by Edmund Cude.

He told staff that although yesterday was his last day, he will be staying on as consultant for a while and after a holiday, plans to start job-hunting.

In a memo, he said: “I have had a fantastic time here and am certain that the new company will achieve great things.

“I wish them all the very best and am delighted that I will still be able to contribute.”

A spokesman for Edmund Cude paid tribute to Walker and said the firm was glad to be retaining his services as a consultant. The spokesman said Bushells would remain as a strong brand and would now be run by Robert Nichols, managing director at Edmund Cude.

I have known Eric personally and professionally for many years and worked with him for a while. He is without doubt the most knowledgeable person I know - not just regarding agency - on many levels.

He is simply a huge personality who generates loyalty and affection from all who know him. Eric crosses divides - I have been out on the piss with him in Mayfair and the darkest depths of Bermondsey - he makes friends wherever. No matter how boring a meeting is - no matter who attends - he WILL get people to laugh - and then contribute in equal measure.

Its a loss for Edmund Cude and they are mad to lose him - but EW wont moan or say a bad word - he never does.

Good Luck Eric. You are a true, honest gentleman and a man upon whom so many rely when they need help.

Without doubt the best influence in the industry - a top bloke personally who is just honest and says what he thinks - sod the consequences - yet oddly never upsets anyone as he is usually right. Good luck EW. Enjoy your break - after the time you have put in - you really deserve it

Only met him on a handful of occasions but could the NFOPP please snap Eric up as he is exactly the sort of guy they need to get the organisation into the public eye.
