NeedAProperty says that 14 months after launch, it has become the fourth largest property portal in the UK, with nearly 4,000 agents listing on it and traffic up 105% on this time a year ago.

The portal, which went live in June 2012, says that visitor time on site is also up, by 25%.

NeedAProperty, which has recently struck a deal with women’s publishers Hearst Magazines, now employs a team of 24 people from its Middlesex offices and claims to be able to reach in excess of 13.1m UK adults.

Strategic director Corinne Sugar said: “NeedAProperty is going from strength to strength. The fact that we charge £100 per month is one of our most important USPs.

“However, we are constantly listening to what our agents require from a property portal and in response to the ever-increasing prices that the duopoly are demanding, last month we introduced an upfront yearly payment option that equates to a monthly fee of £66 per month.

“This allows agents the ability to plan their marketing spend in advance and know that is done for the year, plus we reward them for doing so by discounting the price by £400.”

The package includes unlimited property listings, free logo upload and dedicated agent information pages.

Sugar added: “NeedAProperty has become the fourth largest property portal in the UK.

“Our traffic and engagement time is increasing rapidly as the portal becomes more well known.

“This together with our transparent pricing means that all our agents can be confident that they are not subjected to the vast disparity of pricing that happens on other portals.

“No agent should have to pay extortionate fees in order to display their properties online.”

    When these firms contact me, I carry out one simple exercise;

    Type into google - property to let Clapham (one of the areas I cover) and if they are not on the first page (often their not even on the second or third page!) and if they do not come up, then I won't advertise with them. Easy

    Get an investor on board who's going pump millions into your company and you might just might be able to compete with the big 2. Until then don't bother me

    here we go again....more slight of hand reporting....how many actual customers do they have and what evidence is there to back up claims of current market reach.

    I advertise in the Sunday Times once in a while...doesn't mean i suddenly have their millions of readers on my website to boast about to potential customers...i wish......its nonsense.
