Lancashire trading standards have appealed for agent Wayne Saxton to contact them, after advising tenants who had rented through his business, Saxton’s Residential Lettings, to pay money direct to their landlords.

Trading standards have confirmed that they are investigating claims from around 20 landlords that the firm owes them collectively around £35,000 in unpaid rent, but suspect that more could be owed cash as they say there were some 300 rental properties on Saxton’s books.

Landlords are due to hold a public meeting this week, on Wednesday evening.

The agency, in Rossendale, closed last month. Saxton’s membership of the National Association of Estate Agents was terminated earlier this year.

Sounds like a case for Estate Agency bonding to me. Estate Agents in Eire nedd to be licenced and bonded - so why not in the UK in the same way that Travel Agents are bonded under ABTA (Ex Travel Agent).
