Fancy winning an estate agency business in sunny South Africa?

Century 21 is giving away three franchises in a competition, which it says is aimed at strong independent principals, exceptional estate agents and smaller brands.

Colleen Gray, managing director of Century 21 South Africa, said: “Difficult market conditions call for innovative solutions and we believe the ‘Golden Opportunity’ competition will make a difference in the industry.

“There are many deserving agencies and agents out there who have the know-how, the business savvy and the acumen to grow their businesses. Moreover, they are keen to become part of a global brand.

“However, taking advantage of the opportunity to acquire this calibre of franchise support requires capital and that’s a scarce commodity right now.”

Entrants will be judged according to a number of criteria. “But essentially we are offering a career development opportunity to the agent and/or principal who can most convincingly state why they should be the recipient of such an endowment.

“We believe it is a groundbreaking event in an industry that needs to be kick-started.”

Full details, should you be tempted to exchange one country’s awful housing market for another’s, are at www.century21.co.za. The competition closes on May 31.

I recon they give them away cos no one in their right mind would pay to take on a franchise in this market, and it's not like SA is short on land for sale !!

Century 21 are not the only global estate agents that focus on thier client with one point of contact from start to finish, they are good and are better than most, but not the best Franchise out there. They are however worthy of being second largest in the world, more agents should take up their ethos and working practice...

I think the same as Terry, a good marketing ploy by Century 21, they seem to be in every country I visited recently. I sold my house in France through Century 21 and after moving back to Derbyshire discovered two of their branches close by and have now bought a house through them. Their focus is definately on customer service and I understand why their mature and professional approach to the whole buying and selling process is so successful. I can't stand the typical British estate agent who employs such young and inexperienced staff who only seem capable of saying "that isn't my department, you'll have to speak to Kimberley"! I wouldn't use half of my local agents if I came to sell and move on again but I'd definately use Century 21.

This is a good marketing ploy by Century21.
I have not investigated this but in effect they atre offering a franchise with no cost up front.
I would expect that most franchised networks will be willing to negotiate something like this competition or no competition.

Century 21 have a good selling point. I understand they look after their customers with a particular sales executive from start to finish. I commend Century 21 for this initiative. I wouldn't mind sellng houses in Sunny South Africa. I may even apply myself - but not until the end of the UK Summer.

I went to a Century 21 Franchise seminar in the early 90's. They thought their big clumsy signs would dominate our landscape and replicate their success in the U.S. One or two local agents did sign up but died out sometime in the mid 90's. I wonder if there are any survivors as I haven't seen their name anywhere in the last few years.
