The boss of the Tenancy Deposit Scheme is to quit.

Lawrence Greenberg – whose official job title is Independent Case Examiner – will leave on June 1.

His departure follows the ructions earlier this year when huge price hikes were announced in subscriptions because the number of disputes had escalated.

Subsequently, the two biggest customers – LSL and Countrywide – left the TDS.

Chief operations officer Debra Rymer has been asked to continue in her current position and Michael Morgan will take over as acting head of adjudication. A chief executive will be recruited.

Yesterday, the board expressed its gratitude to Greenberg for the major role he played in setting up the Tenancy Deposit Scheme.

“His knowledge and experience of mediation, arbitration and dispute resolution have made the Scheme the leader in tenancy deposit protection,” said Professor Martin Partington, chairman of The Dispute Service, the company that runs the TDS.

I think you'll find that it was the board who approved the subscriptions... I note the Chairman has been replaced too.

Not sure about that. Indeed, I am not sure who was running the show? Hornsey, as the insurance guru, should have been keeping an eye on the dispute incidence (claims)and reacting accordingly, whilst conferring with NFoPP & RICS as the other Board members. Perhaps LG was rather too cocooned in the ICE's ivory tower.

“His knowledge and experience of mediation, arbitration and dispute resolution....."!
The handling of the price hikes bears this out does it?
I wish Debra Rymer all the best.
