Great to hear of an estate agent in Staffordshire, which has been collecting shoeboxes full of Christmas gifts to send out to troops in Afghanistan.

Acres is collecting shoeboxes at each of its six offices until the deadline of this weekend, when the boxes will be dispatched to reach troops in time for Christmas.

The boxes contain quite simple gifts – wet wipes, Vaseline, tissues and sweets are all practical and popular.

Partner Mike Weaver said: “We feel proud to be a very small cog in the wheel which will provide some Christmas cheer to our incredibly brave troops away from home and in a hostile environment.”

The well-supportd initiative attracted a visit by two soldiers, Lance Sergeant Draper of the Irish Guards, and Gunner Bowen of the Royal Horse Artillery, to Acres’ office in Sutton Coldfield. Both are due to go to Afghanistan next year.

There has also been excellent local publicity.

At Estate Agent Today, please do tell us of any charitable initiatives your own firm is taking part in as Christmas approaches. This sort of thing does the industry nothing but good.
