Spicerhaart has acquired Harper James, an independent agent in Sussex, for an undisclosed sum – and made it clear that it is hungry for more acquisitions.

Harper James has been operating as a mid-market residential estate agent in Horsham for a number of years, mainly covering the West Sussex area.

Spicerhaart will take over Harper James with immediate effect and says it has no plans to rebrand the business in the foreseeable future.

It intends instead to focus on increasing its portfolio of properties in the mid to upper end of the market.

Experienced local estate agent Lee Brace has been appointed to oversee the running of the branch, which is in a Grade II listed landmark building used by estate agents for over 100 years. Spicerhaart plans to employ between three and four people eventually in Horsham.

The purchase forms part of an acquisition strategy by Spicerhaart.

Paul Smith, chief executive officer, said: “The acquisition of Harper James once again highlights our position as the most acquisitive independent estate agent in the UK.”
