Solicitors Property Centres (SPCs) in Scotland have joined forces to launch a new national property website which goes live today.

SPC Scotland is a joint initiative among solicitors’ property centres across Scotland, which between them sold over 17,000 homes worth more than £3bn in the first nine months of this year.

SPCs operate from the Borders to the Highlands and almost invariably advertise for sale the lion’s share of property in their respective areas.

Unlike England and Wales, solicitors sell more properties than estate agents, and Rightmove is not regarded as the predominant force.

As in the rest of the UK, the housing market in Scotland is in the doldrums.

Now, the majority of Scots solicitors’ property centres have set up a national website, featuring tens of thousands of homes for sale, many in areas poorly served by other property websites.

Malcolm Cannon, chairman of SPC Scotland and chief executive of Edinburgh Solicitors Property Centre, said: “The new website is a major development that will be enormously helpful to buyers and sellers alike.

“Despite the current economic downturn, there has been a steady flow of properties changing hands across the country. There are still more properties for sale than there are buyers, so it’s tough on sellers at the moment.”

Richard - There are over 13,000 properties on the site today. I can't say what percentage of the properties for sale in Scotland that is, but I can say that none are scraped from other sites. All come directly from the selling solicitors.

So what constitutes a stady stream? 1 property per month per solicitor. That is a steady stream but a very slow stream.

Us EA's south of the Highlands have had a steady stream and many have gone bust because the stream was too slow. I hope it runs a bit faster for all of us.

    Good luck Scotland.

EAT, pleas get a comment from 'Martin' at 'Allagents' on how he feels this 'new portal' will be viewed by agents and the public. Will it make money, will it survive, will it challenge RM?

    Cheers me dears!
