Louis Armstrong, chief executive of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors, is to retire after 12 years. Armstrong will step down at a date to be arranged and his replacement will be chosen by the RICS governing council.

During his tenure, RICS has expanded abroad and its monthly housing market surveys have gathered credibility.

Despite the small size of the sample, they have become recognised as representing and predicting market sentiment.

However, during the time, there has never been any real explanation as to the mooted  merger with the NAEA a few years ago, a move firmly rejected by NAEA members once they learnt of it. The RICS has also yet to come clean on whether it has, or not, underwritten the TDS to the tune of £500,000.
