It’s got more recipes and hairstyles than you could ever feasibly want in a lifetime, but Pininterest – the fastest growing social network site of all time – doesn’t seem to have much of one thing: estate agents.

Apparently, they still prefer Facebook.

Pinterest – a visual ‘pinboard’ which communicates by pictures not words – has accumulated 10.4m users, but social networking guru Brett Tudor says property companies are conspicuous by their absence and are missing out on a powerful lead generation tool.

He says: “Much has changed in the world of social media in the past year, having moved from communicating through text to visuals, and we have seen platforms like Pinterest and Instagram explode on to the digital scene.

“Statistics show that Pinterest has jumped from No. 188 to No. 4 in just one year and Instagram has also taken a huge leap from No. 609 to 11 in the most-used social platforms. This proves how much people are beginning to focus more on uploading and sharing pictures online.

“For property companies in particular, platforms of this kind can have a huge effect on brand awareness, SEO and engagement. There is an incredible amount companies can show in pictures which simply cannot be expressed in words.

“On Facebook, photos are twice as likely to be shared in comparison to text-based updates and photos on Pinterest refer more traffic than either Twitter, Stumbleupon or LinkedIn.

“Pinterest also attracts more brand followers than Facebook or Twitter, according to the latest research.”

Be that as it may, according to a survey of 100 agents by Move With Us, Facebook is the number one social media site, with 45 having a page, followed by 35 with a Twitter account, 11 who use LinkedIn and five with a YouTube presence.

If you want to know how the relatively few agents on Pininterest use the site, try these links:

Yes it's true - agents should all be on Pinterest (note the spelling!)

It's a great place to showcase properties and we have made a start with some of the best properties from our agents. We also love promoting our agents there!

We really like the article and the links. The pinboards you referenced are clever as they are functional and attractive.

Whether it leads to sales remains to be seen, but getting ahead of the pack and devoting time to it will mark agents out as savvy.

We also have a Pinterest account for the same reason! Please see here.
