Some 215,000 new jobs would be created if the UK built the new homes it needs, and the national economy would receive a £1.2 billion boost.

These are the sums done in a new report from the Home Builders Federation called ‘Reconstructing our regions’.

It unveils the economic benefits of meeting the UK’s housing need.

It is the first report to analyse the potential economic impact of the Government’s New Homes Bonus on local communities, together with the upturn in local employment if communities did build the homes required.

HBF executive chairman Stewart Baseley said: “Building houses is a win-win for communities across the country. Not only will families get the homes they need, but local employment and increased investment will be boosted.”

(Stewart Baseley said: “Building houses is a win-win for communities across the country. Not only will families get the homes they need, but local employment and increased investment will be boosted.”)

Yeah right! Most developers bring their own builders with them around the country, so little local employment will be created, plus the only people able to live in these new properties will be people on housing benefit, so it would be a government funded incentive to fill empty properties with families funded by the government, which the rest of us tax payers will have to fund!

In addition to this, new homes do not help the housing market, because no one buys second hand stock and then no chains are created!

More empty properties drive house prices lower too, which means that many home owers will lose equity in their homes and will find it difficult to move later!

This country needs less public money being spent, which only drives up the deficit & our future taxes and needs more incentives to get the private sector working again for actual wealth creation.

There are plenty of houses on the market for buyers to buy and not enough mortgages around to get them on the ladder. Tackle this and private sector job creation and this country might actually get back on it's feet !!!
