Good luck to Pete Burnham, director at estate agency marketing firm Niche Communications, based in Wokingham, Berkshire.

Next month, he will be attempting the London to Paris cycle challenge, and has set himself the goal of raising £3,000 in aid of the Trust for Africa’s Orphans.

The four-day race means that on the first day alone, he will have to cycle 95 miles.

The Trust does invaluable work, from health education to providing clean water, farming aid and literacy programmes. The children it helps are often in the most heart-breaking circumstances.

Pete feels so strongly about it that he is funding the £700 cost of the challenge himself, so that all of the sponsorship raised goes direct to the charity.

Hugest thanks to Pete - and Rosalind for publishing the story. TAO helps children in extended families because we think that better than orphanages. Some orphans head households of several siblings, some include a mother or grandmother with more than one family to look after.

We teach them how to grow nutritious crops for food - and the surplus is sold for income for essentials like school materials. And when we leave they carry on because the skills are sustainable. We'd love you to support Pete!

    Pamela, TAO trustee.
