The majority of estate agents (85%) believe that Help to Buy will boost property sales by up to 30% in their areas.

Estate agency network Move with Us asked 186 agents across the country for their thoughts.

When asked if they believe it was right to bring the Help to Buy mortgage indemnity scheme forward from January to October, 86% of agents agreed that this was a good policy decision.

A further 77% think the scheme will help increase sales in the run-up to Christmas.

However, 45% of agents believe the Government could have provided more useful explanatory information about the scheme.

When asked about signs of a housing bubble, Adrian Woodcock from Woodcock Holmes in Peterborough said: “With the evidence that we have so far, we are cautiously optimistic that the market is set for improvement with the Help to Buy scheme and that confidence is returning to prospective buyers.

“We don’t believe the market is at risk of an over-inflated housing bubble.

“We are still a long way from the market of 2007 and pricing the property correctly is still the key to achieving a successful sale.”

Andrew Willmer of Lane and Homes, Bedford, said: “There’s no sign of a housing bubble in Bedford at the moment.

“The local feeling is that people are waiting until next year and sounding out Help to Buy before they progress with their plans to purchase property.”

If you read Jeff Randall's column in the Daily Telegraph recently you will understand why HTB will soon be exposed for what it is - a Government gimmick to supposedly garner votes and earn more SDLT to pay for it.

As soon as interest rates rise those FTBs who have taken on more than they can comfortably manage will be the first to suffer and the taxpayer will be picking up the tab.

It can only end in tears.

Help to buy is great for homeowners it pushes up the value of your asset.... whats not to like. You can then Equity release and spend, perhaps on a deposit for another BTL property, which a poor person has to rent. The good times are back.....I'll vote for those that keep me rich :).

What about the next generation....ohhh my kids will be alright so who cares :)

'......86% of agents agreed that this was a good policy decision......'

    What does one expect?
    No vested interest here then!

In my opinion Help to Buy for those who are property owners already is basically wrong.
