Hurrah! HIPs have finally been abolished.

A couple of years ago, this news would have sent us into a tailspin and EAT would have put out a special extraordinarily well-read news alert just when you weren’t expecting it.

The news today is, however, slightly muted.

HIPs were, in effect, abolished within days of the 2010 general election.

However, it took a bit of red tape – a Commencement Order for parts of the Localism Act – to finally get rid of the things this week.

In the interests of completeness and finality, we should add that absolutely no one, for example Mike Ockenden, has been asked to comment.

(Who he? – Ed.)
