The Guild of Estate Agents, together with its upmarket Fine & Country brand, is canvassing its members about property portal charges.

It is using its group purchasing power to try to get discounted rates but is asking for clear evidence of member dissatisfaction with current charges, together with affirmation that agents will cancel or use other portals if rates are not reduced.

The negotiations are being handled by the Estate Agency Buying Group (www.eabg.co.uk) which, as reported by us last week, has now signed up 450 agents.

Market forces will determine the level of advertising or membership fees for any Internet web portal, newspaper or magazine. If it's any good, Agents will be likely to pay handsomely for it!

We are getting agents together to pull out of rlghtmove from January unless they slash their subscription charges by half. Please sign the petition if you wish to join in at wwwdotpetitionspotdotcom/petitions/rightmoveboycott. (fill in the ‘.’s where it says dot)
Please pass this on to as many fellow agents as possible.
