Fine & Country’s CEO has quit after just one year in the role.

Matthew Pryke’s appointment came after he had represented Fine & Country, owned by the Guild of Professional Agents, in its legal battle against Spicerhaart’s Fine.

Pryke, a lawyer specialising in commercial and intellectual law, appeared to have won the case unequivocally when the High Court sided with Fine & Country.

It found that Spicerhaart’s Fine brand was a passing off and an infringement of copyright. It ordered Spicerhaart to rebrand its Fine business.

However, Spicerhaart said it was considering an appeal and would not be stopping its advertising, the style of which lay at the heart of the case.

In turn, Fine & Country said it would be pursuing Spicerhaart for damages.

Malcolm Lindley, of Fine & Country, said: “After a very successful year at the helm of Fine & Country, Matthew Pryke has decided, for his own reasons, to return to a career in law to pursue his ambition towards becoming a barrister and build upon his notary practice.

“He remains a close friend and a valuable ally of Fine & Country and is our legal representative insofar as the Fine case is concerned.”

A spokesman for Spicerhaart’s Fine said there was no update on the legal case.
