The Deposit Protection Service has introduced instant text messaging contact for landlords and tenants to speed up the repayment of tenant deposits.

The text service – an industry first – will include updates on necessary actions that tenants and landlords need to put in motion for repayments, single claims and dispute resolution.

Kevin Firth, director of the DPS, said: “Our text messaging service will help ensure that our customers have all the information they need, but the 405,000 landlords and lead tenants who use our service must make sure we have the correct mobile numbers on our system.”

Meanwhile, the scale of lettings business undertaken by the UK’s two largest letting agents has emerged in the wake of the defection of the Tenancy Dispute Service’s biggest customers, LSL and Countrywide, to the Mydeposits schemes.

We understand that more than 75,000 deposit protections were involved in the transfers.
