Staff at property industry software provider VTUK are to take part in the notoriously challenging Spartan Race later this month.

They are doing it to raise money for various breast cancer charities, including the Cancer Vaccine Institute and Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Spartan Race is an obstacle race, with a course designed by athletes and a Royal Marine.

Peter Grant, chief executive of VTUK, said: “This will be no walk in the park – the 5km race involves participants tackling fire, mud and barbed wire, as well as being constantly assailed by huge men with large clubs!

“We’re doing this for my wife, Claire, who suffers with terminal triple negative breast cancer (TNBC), and will be donating all proceeds to Breakthrough Breast Cancer, who are currently funding a trial that is specifically targeted at TNBC, as well as the Cancer Vaccine Institute, who are researching a cancer cure by way of immunotherapy.”

Claire was first diagnosed with TNBC two and half years ago, and the form of cancer affects approximately 10%-20% of all breast cancers with around 150,000 new patients each year.

Unlike other types of breast cancer, TNBC is unresponsive to standard hormone treatments and is far more likely to affect younger women than other variants.

VTUK is entering a team of eight employees, and has already exceeded its initial target of £2,000 by raising an impressive £7,450 so far.

The event is on Sunday, August 25, and donations are welcome.
