NAEA chief Peter Bolton King has been appointed to the board of an international estate agency trade organisation.

He will sit on the board of FIABCI (the International Real Estate Federation) representing ICREA (the International Consortium of Real Estate Associations) of which he is a past chairman.

The two bodies are considering joining up as one, and have signed an ‘alliance’ in Berlin.

FIABCI world president Alexander Romanenko signed on behalf of FIABCI, while chair Alan Tennant signed on behalf of ICREA (pictured).

The bodies said that the cooperation between FIABCI and ICREA results from a shared core vision of the need for a global leading organisation which embraces all sectors of the property industry.

Both organisations promote international trade in property, including cross-border transactions.

ICREA members are 45 national associations, such as the NAEA. FIABCI has 100 national associations on board. Last December, the US National Association of Realtors resigned from ICREA, despite have helped found it.

To be fair to Peter, he isn't self appointed, he is employed (at a pretty good salary it has to be said) and represents what he is told to represent.

The NAEA and NFoPP has lost its way and has been doing so for some time. Whilst anyone is entitled to ensure their job and family income is protected when the outlook is looking less than rosy at ones current employer (and I don't blame Peter for that), this appointment sends out a terrible message to those members that have remained loyal.

For a long time, I believe that it has suited some within the NFoPP to have Peter out of the country on a regular basis as it has allowed political power-games to be played at the highest levels. Rumour has it that these may now cease/ be on the decline; we shall see. What worries me is that there appears to be no-one remaining who has the drive, energy and vision to represent members in the way that they deserve.

Serious questions need to be asked about its role, future and direction. These were asked at great cost some years ago but they have, in the main, been trampled on or out-voted with cynical self interest.

Unless fundamental positive changes are brought in, and soon; I believe that we are watching the last few gasps of a once valuable and useful professional body.

Regardless of whether he is being paid or getting free trips out of it - how about some serious help for members?

Lets look at their last press releases (from their website)

NAEA website shortlisted for: Website of the Year 2011 - 01/06/2011

A String of Bank Holidays and a Royal Wedding failed to put Brits off buying property - 25/05/2011

    Housing Market Report - April 2011 - 24/05/2011

Buying a house with Friends and Family? - 19/05/2011

New guide to help you sell your house - 05/05/2011

    Anything there which helps? No.

Its all been said below - just wondered when the people at NFoPP or PBK himself were ever going to generate some decent, positive PR so I can tell myself that there is a point to being a member?

    Any advice appreciated

You really couldn't make this up. NAEA with falling members, ARLA with a disasterous week of PR own goals, no cohesive voice for NFLoPP, poor image...... and PBK announces that whilst many are losing their jobs, he secures another one!!

Shame on you NAEA / ARLA . Really, this is the last straw for me. I worry about how to pay the bills including the increased CMP levy and they are signing up to more jollies. Dont tell me thses overseas meetings will be paid for by anyone other than the members hard earned subscriptions.

For the love of God, when will they connect with the real world? A serious error judgment

Have these people no clue - its worse that the MP expenses scandal in terms of Estate agency.

Nice work if you can get it,

For the sake of anyone that thinks / believes that estate agents are pointless lazy, in effective windbags………………well as this bloke is sort of the self proclaimed leader and spokesman for us all I don’t blame you.

So, a new role in an organisation that no one has heard of / cares about where he will bring no benefit to the consumer or the industry – perfect, suits his CV well, he would have gone down well in the NuLabour government as head of one of those daft QUANGOS.

One last thing, hard not to be silly about it but flippin heck, Alexander Romanenko as the president, isn’t that the Meerkat chap?

……………..usual close on NAEA posts, time to cancel the direct debits everyone

Is he preparing to 'jump ship' when he should be concentrating on sorting out the NFoPP so that it fights more effectively for the interests of members in these turbulent times?

More freebies, more Gala dinners, less focus on his what he is employed to do - represent his ARLA & NAEA members.

International trade? Has PBK any idea how hard the market is at home?

    I am truly disgusted.
