Robin Cripp started work in estate agency on his 16th birthday – and although he thought he would last only six months, 52 years later he is still happily selling and auctioning houses.

Indeed, earlier this month his firm, Andrews and Robertson, made a stir by achieving a £5m price in the salesroom – the highest for six years.

He bought the firm he first went to work for, went on to found the auction house Barnard Marcus and sold his business to a corporate.

He ‘retired’ for ten years but was tempted out of retirement by, of all things, the recession and the chance of saving a business. Earlier this year his business merged wit an estate agency firm in Wimbledon, Quinton Scott, and today reveals to EAT that he is in the market for more growth.

What Robin Cripp does not know about the property world is probably not worth knowing.

Read his fascinating interview under the blog section in today’s EAT.
