Estate agents may well be advised to call off their Olympics celebrations now – or at least, make sure they’re not for the high jump over them.

Webbers Property Services, the West Country agents, wanted to support the torch relay passing its branches so they created window displays featuring Olympic rings and Olympic torches rather cunningly made from For Sale signs.

Oops!

They clearly hadn’t read the earlier horror story in EAT when Eric Walker of Bushells was all but sent to the Tower of London for taking a photograph of the Olympics publicity boat on the Thames just outside one of his offices, and then using said picture in a local newspaper advert.

Now Webbers has committed a similar transgression – and received a similarly pompous blast from the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games.

Within hours of the torch convoy passing through, Webbers boss Malcolm Prescott had a letter from LOCOG demanding that all the window display items be removed as soon as possible, or face legal action.

Mr Prescott described the letter as unbelieveable and added: “Local businesses beware.”

It seems that part of the massive entourage that accompanies the torch is a unit checking for illegal advertising and ambush marketing.

We can only repeat Mr Prescott's warning, although we will of course arrange a rota of prison visitors with gruel should any of our EAT readers find themselves slammed up for the heinous crime of trying to get into the Olympic spirit.

EAT advises that you must not be seen imbibing any fizzy drinks other than Coca-Cola within spitting distance of the flame; you must on no account be wearing Nike trainers rather than Adidas; and certainly not be seen at the wheel of any automobile other than a BMW. Please also try to resist the temptation to watch the torch relay from your local Kentucky Fried Chicken emporium rather than the Olympic-approved McDonald’s.

The good news is that as far as we know, you will still be able to display the Union Jack should you wish to get into the Jubilee mood. That is, of course, unless Her Maj does a deal in the meantime with Poundsaver.

Here’s how the Daily Telegraph covered the story:

Oh dear - where is the spirit of the Olympics?

Take a copy of the Yellow Pages logo Webbers P S and turn it upside down and hey presto! The committee will have a lovely answer.

If you get told off then maybe the office gimp put them up the wrong way up!

    olympic sprit totally missed then

'please join in the olympic celebrations but only on out terms'

they should be more concerned how the bill escalated from 4 billion to 10 billion(some say 21 billion) and who benefitted

I have to say that there was a fantastic amount of hard work and effort put into making Webbers Braunton Office looked Brilliant, however the official sponsors probably didn't like the "Scott" racing bike which was at the centre of the display.

Word is that we must all hand in our Lighters, Matches and Candles. the flame they produce bears an unauthorised resemblence to the Official flame!
