Andrews helps Oxfam celebrate anniversary

Members of Andrews Estate and Letting Agents rubbed shoulders with celebrities at a special event to commemorate Oxfam’s 70th anniversary.

Celebrities supporting the event, held in Oxford, included Kristin Davis from Sex and the City, Michael Eavis, founder of the Glastonbury Festival, Have I Got News For You’s Ian Hislop, chef Raymond Blanc and the BBC’s John Simpson.

The relationship between Andrews and Oxfam goes back to when Cecil Jackson-Cole, who was the first honorary secretary of Oxfam back in 1942, then went on to set up Andrews in 1946.
 
Staff from Andrews were also instrumental in transforming the charity into a major operation, with one of the company’s first directors, Leslie Swain, being seconded to Oxfam to instill a sense of business acumen into its day-to-day running.
 
A year later Jackson-Cole gifted Andrews to three charitable trusts, resulting in the company paying an annual charitable dividend from its profits. Today this equates to Andrews and Partners giving a minimum of £300,000 to its charitable owners each year.
 
Robson said: “We are very proud of the relationship we have with Oxfam which goes back to the end of the last war and were delighted to support Oxfam in the celebration of its 70th anniversary.
 
“It was a fantastic evening which was well supported by some very well-known celebrities.”
