Here is an object lesson in how to make your local presence felt in the property market.

The local newspaper in Marlborough, owned by Newsquest, has closed its offices, leaving the Wiltshire town without a newspaper office for the first time in more than 200 years.

So how will the paper continue to engage with the public as well as get its scoops on the double-dealing, sex scandals, property scams and lap-dancing goings-on involving its local council and MP? (We’ve just made these things up, obviously.)

Well, long-serving reporter Nigel Kerton will now work from home, plus meet his contacts at the coffee shop in Waitrose on Tuesday morning.

And local agents Henry George will receive letters and contributions for the newspaper at its offices, still going strong just down the road from the original Gazette offices. Good for them.
