Estate agents are a generous crowd when it comes to charity and, with the best will in the world, we simply cannot find space to mention all that you do.

However, here are two current appeals that – we think you will agree – strike a special chord.

Yorkshire estate agents Manning Stainton have pledged to raise £50,000 this year for Macmillan.

The money, which will pay for one specialist cancer nurse for one year, is being raised for very powerful reasons.

Russell Manning says: “Having lost my beautiful wife Amanda last year to this dreadful disease, sadly I know only too well how dedicated these special people are and the absolutely incredible work they do, always with deep compassion, dignity and care.”

Russell himself, together with co-directors, will be taking part in an “I’m an estate agent – get me out of here” event this weekend. Apparently, it’s a cross between a treasure hunt, endurance test and a race.

The entire Manning Stainton team will be putting on a wide range of other events this year, raising money for a charity which relies almost entirely on voluntary contributions.

A special Just Giving page has been set up:

Meanwhile, in October, Nick Lovell, of Chesterton Humberts, pictured centre with colleagues, will be trekking to the base camp of Everest in order to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Nick, who is based in Covent Garden from where he runs the firm's property services department, has cystic fibrosis himself.

He will be the first person in the UK with the condition to have attempted to climb Everest. The expedition will last for 17 days and will see him and his colleagues, Callum Ferguson, Louise Nicholson and Peter Whyte, ascend to 18,000 feet and experience altitudes with scarce oxygen.

Those who have previously completed the trek have described the breathing conditions during the climb as similar to those experienced by sufferers of Cystic Fibrosis on a day-to-day basis.

Speaking about the expedition, Nick says: “The purpose of the trek is not just to raise awareness and funds for Cystic Fibrosis, it is also to show that having an illness should never stand in the way of the achievement of personal goals and ambitions.”

The money Nick and his team raise will help the Cystic Fibrosis Trust to fund research into gene therapy, as well as to provide ongoing treatment for those with the condition.

And best wishes to both for their efforts for what are undoubtedly excellent causes.

I have met Russell Manning several times over the years, and I am sincerely sorry to hear of his tragic loss. I have no doubt that his determination to do this in memory of his beloved wife will result in a great deal more than his target figure being achieved.

Ros - personal opinion but I really don't think that you could ever print ENOUGH of these stories...

Make a tabbed section for it on the header. I, for one, will read and comment on every one!

Suggest you lose the "Who's Who" to make way for it. Those who grace those pages already know who they are.

    Those that don't, don't care... ;o)
