The National Landlords Association has confirmed it is to join forces with the UK Association of Letting Agents (UKALA).

Members of UKALA, which represents more than 500 letting agents, voted at their AGM for the move.

David Salusbury, NLA chairman, said: “This is an excellent opportunity to create a more unified voice for landlords, tenants and letting agents across the private rented sector.

“Landlords and agents represent two sides of the same coin and this mutually beneficial business agreement will benefit both as we strive for higher standards of practice.”

Under the agreement, the NLA will assume responsibility for management of UKALA and provide advice and information to its member agents.

Well there may well be some symmetry in combining the two. In principle most of the members of the NLA do not want or choose to use a letting agent. They choose to do it themselves, with many of the services the NLA offer at a reduced cost from the NLA, so outside of wanting to promote standards, I cant see another of point of the combination.
