Estate agents have been the fastest high street businesses to adopt the Streetcar as they attempt to drive down costs.
Streetcar for Business is a pay-as-you-go car club currently operating from 1,000 locations across London, Brighton, Cambridge, Southampton, Guildford, Maidstone and Oxford. It is about to launch in Bristol.
Streetcar, whose cars include BMWs, VW Golfs, Polos and Transporter vans, says the number of estate agents using it has doubled in the last year.
Instead of keeping a fleet of branded vehicles racking up parking costs throughout the day, agents book a Streetcar when going out for a viewing or a valuation, from around £4.20 an hour. They can book by a free iPhone App, and even unlock the car with it once standing next to it.
One Streetcar fan, David Mumby, of Knight Frank, said: “We have found Streetcar to be an extremely effective transport option. Streetcars are located on several streets within close proximity of our offices throughout London.
“It’s really popular with our staff as the cars have parking permits, the fleet is new and all the cars are regularly cleaned. We book the cars as and when we need and it has saved us money on company car costs.”

I called up Street Car well over a year ago when i was DDGM to tell them to target estate agents... bet they capitalise on this now.
