London agency Kinleigh Folkard & Hayward says an email sent by an assistant branch manager suggesting would-be buyers would have a head start' by using the firm's in-house mortgage broker goes directly against company policy.

The email, leaked to the magazine FT Adviser which has been campaigning against agents allegedly favouring buyers using in-house finance, says: The most important aspect of all is that our vendors would prefer the buyer they agree a sale to, to be using our in-house broker which strengthens your offer considerably when being involved in multiple bids or a sealed bids scenario.

John Phillips, financial services director at KFH - which has over 25 financial advisers working in its 50-office network - told EAT the tactic promoted in the email goes directly against company policy at KFH, which ensures that the sales process is fair for each and every buyer and we are investigating and addressing this as a matter of urgency.

There has been a series of similar allegations made by FT Adviser since the start of 2014 with specific examples, many of them against brands owned by the Countrywide group.

Last week EAT reported that outgoing Countrywide CEO Grenville Turner has pledged to reinforce the supervision of working practices of estate agents within the group.
