A consumer group is urging vendors to haggle fees with agents using OnTheMarket because the new portal has a 48-hour head start' on publicising homes for sale.

The HomeOwners' Alliance - which says a vendor should check which portals are to be used by agents pitching for their instruction - suggests that sellers should negotiate a reduced percentage fee for the delay in your property appearing on Rightmove or Zoopla.

The campaign - which has been sharply critical of agents' fees in the past, long before the arrival of OnTheMarket - says the reduced fee would be because your home could sit for two days or more on a relatively unknown site, missing out on the influx of traffic to other portals.

If dissatisfied, the group says a vendor could always instruct an agent who advertises on Rightmove and Zoopla.

The campaign appears to have won the endorsement of Home, the property section of the Sunday Times, which yesterday reported that OTM had received a frosty welcome in its first week and said trying for a discounted commission by vendors was worth a shot.

Elsewhere in the Sunday Times yesterday morning, on page 12 of the news section, the first national newspaper advertisement for OTM appeared, ahead of the roll out of its TV advertisements which appeared for the first time later in the day.

There have also been regional newspaper promotion, partly through advertorial comment in the Archant group of local publications and partly through paid-for advertising.

I used to enjoy visiting this site, sometimes there used to be an article worth reading & the comments worth interacting with. The OTM "coverage" has been pathetic, childish, ludicrously biased & it has taken away what remaining appeal eatoday once had. I get having a difference of opinion, but when it becomes so obviously agenda driven you have to wonder why you waste your time & visit the site. Which I wont be doing any longer, ill take my clicks elsewhere.

The Homeowners Alliance - this is on their website:
If you are still determined to sell yourself, learn from the PROS:
Use estate agents: get three or four round to value your house; PRETEND you will use them.
Selling in the spring and summer attracts higher prices
Set your asking price at 5-10% above what you would accept, to allow for negotiation
    AAAAAAAAAARGH
What a waste of time organisation!! WHY give them any publicity

Well AM agents say that the data they send to Rightmove has value, then witholding it from Rightmove and sending it to OTM first is also making value for themselves. And so there should be a discount!!

It's all very hypocritical. The public just don't want to know.

For the last few months I have supported the introduction of OTM PROVIDING the participating agents themselves really 'hit the ground running' with heavy local advertising, within their offices and out, at the launch to give it a chance. Yesterday I read the property section of the Times and had to actually SEARCH the adverts to locate any mention of OTM - there were only ridiculously small logo's - if one could find them!
What on earth is the matter with these people OTM is dead in the water if they do not get a grip quickly. The TV ad Confusing and not punchy eneough. It will be interesting to see what the local agents do this week.

Now I know why I left this site. Maybe a good time to leave it again - only room for one PeeBee in any room - and THIS character below is a complete waste of space wherever he or she may frequent.

Totally agree. OTM has little following and does cost sellers 2 days delay plus most OTM agents only do one of the two main portals.
