An agent who last year closed down her sales and lettings business has rejected a claim by former clients that their £499 up-front fee should be returned.

Laura Simpson told Estate Agent Today that she closed Simplisold last year for personal reasons. I was having a baby and running a sales and lettings agency. It was simply too much she says.

When we knew we were going to close down we stopped charging clients up-front fees as we knew it wouldn't be fair. But there's no client dating from before that time who should get a refund, because we have done marketing for them insists Simpson.

The Daily Record paper is running a story claiming that Catherine and Gurnam Darput placed their two bedroom apartment on the market in Glasgow through Simplisold for £115,000. However, they recently discovered that the agency's telephone number on the For Sale sign was not working.

Their home was in fact marketed for two years so I feel they have no justification in asking for a refund. They were told that we were closing says Simpson.

The Simplisold website still appears to be live' and Estate Agent Today has tried the three telephone numbers listed on the site - in Glasgow, East Kilbride and Cumbernauld - but they are all disconnected and each has an automated out-of-service message.

It's a mistake that the site is still live. I've asked for it to be taken down explains Simpson, who since June last year has run a lettings business covering the same patch, called Angel Lets Ltd.

However, a spokesman for South Lanarkshire Trading Standards is quoted in the Daily Record as saying that the company still appears to be active and is registered at Companies House. We'd urge anyone who is having problems to get in touch with us direct on 01698 455696 and we will investigate on their behalf says the spokesman.
