New figures from the Agency Express Property Activity Index confirm that the market is slowing with falls in homes sold and on the market.

The number of homes sold across the UK dipped 2.7 per cent in the past three months, and new listings of homes coming to the market dropped by 1.2 per cent.

Of 11 regions recorded by the index, four reported increases in new listings of homes for sale over May, June and July - London was the top performer with an increase of 6.3 per cent, with smaller rises from Wales, central England and the south west.

Over the same period only two of 11 regions - central England and Wales - showed increases in the number of homes actually sold. The region showing the biggest declines in sales was north west England.

Agency Express managing director Stephen Watson says this fall may be merely a lull created by MMR and the fall in mortgage approvals throughout May and June.

As a whole the performance of the UK property market this year has been robust and demand for property continues to rise he says.
