The offering is novel and sounds innovative. All challenger portals have to be. Clearly funding is a big bonus too. However, transparency is required given how agents have been previously treated and I think all portals should declare where/how they make money and this may help the trust issue?

Perhaps we need to stop the view that one portal needs to win against the others. The new challenger portals innovate and differentiate and offer consumers choice. Agents should back all the free or low cost portals. Surely if The big 3 were all free to list or low cost, agents would not limit themselves to one or two? Supporting the challengers is the only way to break this monopoly.

Yes indeed! Its called transparency and progress. Or we could all just never improve or innovate? No one is being forced to sign up to anything. Its an openmarket place for partners to provide an improved service should any agent wish to join. Really??? I guess each to their own!

In reply to this article Graham. I think you may be missing the point. These referral fees are not added to the cost of the purchase to the end-consumer. Due to our unique tech innovation used, we have managed to reduce the marketing costs for the suppliers and partners and accordingly we have arranged for these savings to be shared with all of our agents. That is work that Openbrix and our partners have achieved together. No one has seemed to mind if the larger corporate agents get referral fees, which they have for years, and receive them merely as an incentive to up sell the products. A fact I know you are aware of. What we at OpenBrix have done is to reduce their cost per acquisition for the suppliers and then open these "deals" up the the independent agents to share in these substantial offers. In fact and most importantly , which you have missed, is that we have created a marketplace for suppliers and partners to compete with each other. Competition is clearly good and for the industry. Some of our partners choose to offer discounts to the consumers too, another point you have missed. Perhaps you would like a demo to understand how it works? So, I think you have massively missed the point here, no consumers are paying extra. However, I must thank you for covering the scheme in the first place, which is appreciated. I just hope, now that I have replied here, the concept is now a lot more balanced and explained. Best wishes, Adam Pigott, CEO at OpenBrix

The UK property market needs a shake up. Agents in the UK work very hard and offer a great service but they need to understand the benefits of working together and also being able to represent a buyer. The UK MLS is finally in beta-testing. These models will work brilliantly on the MLS and bring a whole new level of potential to the UK consumers and buyers

Frankly, there are some amazing new innovation with a number of the new portals. All of which are bringing new things to both the agent and consumer. Homesearch, OpenBrix, PropertyHeads, OneDome, Rummage etc are all chatting together, coming together and without doubt want to break the duopoly. If you like the status quo, then enjoy it and please carry on! If however, like the vast and growing majority of agents that are supporting all these far cheaper options, you recognise the need to change then you have the opportunity! So... to the ever-doubters, support the new innovation or enjoy being a puppet!

Angus, not all no! OpenBrix is on blockchain so have no control. It’s on a public community platform and cannot be investor or shareholder led. To be fair most of the new challengers also bring new innovation. I agree the big 3 have behaved disgracefully!

OpenBrix is the first portal built on blockchain and is running live trials with a number of agents in the UK. Why blockchain? The tech guarantees a decentralised and democratised portal that allows the community of agents to control the data and prevents price hikes without a majority share of the community agreeing to it. It is a low cost subscription model with unlimited listings. Add this together with unrivalled benefits to the end users, great integration with CRMs and partners allowing a total open source policy - OpenBrix is bringing a new generation of portal to the market. Rightmove have a very powerful product but it is shareholder led. OTM was supposed to be different but the goal posts were moved and the structure makes it Rightmove 2.0. OpenBrix is built in such a way it can’t have the goal posts moved, no matter who runs it! It has significant support from independent agents and also a sizeable portion of the corporate agencies. The trial finishes soon. It is then built and it’s up to the agent community to use it! Rightmove will have to adapt or they will start to struggle. There is a huge appetite from agents to massively reduce the monthly burn on their portal costs, and OpenBrix offers a final solution to this!
