Rightmove has launched a new Android app. Rightmove said the app will extend the reach of member agents’ properties by capitalising on the rapid growth in Android phones, which now number over 10m in the UK.

Rightmove director Miles Shipside said: “This latest investment in our range of mobile platforms brings Rightmove on to Android handsets and allows us to build on the success of our M-Site with a full Android app.

“Over 700,000 home-movers are using the Rightmove iPhone app every month with a further 835,000 using the M-Site, which serves all other smartphone devices such as Android and Blackberry.

“With the introduction of our new Android app we expect our app user base to go past one million home-movers per month very soon. This represents an incredible proportion of active home-movers around the UK and is a real testament to the investments we have made in mobile.”

The Rightmove Android app can be downloaded for free from Google Play.  (However, are apps really such a good idea?  We have a blog on the subject which queries the idea. See what Ian Laverty has to say)

I'm not a fan of the rm apps on any platform, much prefer the main site as you have more control over your search, and just generally easier to navigate. Still hate them though!

"If your local market does not have those characteristics and your price-pump is based on little more than seasonal optimism and an estate agent’s hot air, then be prepared for buyer response to be a let-down."
