The Residential Property Surveyors Association has a new chairman to lead its future plans for growth. Alan Milstein, a qualified surveyor and owner of CHIPS Surveyors, a specialist residential surveying business, will take up the post with immediate effect.

Milstein will take over the role from outgoing chairman Martin Tate, who after two years in the post has taken the decision to step down. However, Tate will remain on the RPSA council and will continue to support the association’s role in representing the surveying community and raising awareness about the important role of surveys as part of the home-buying process.

As an existing member of the RPSA, Milstein has been heavily involved in the association’s activities over the last three years, including the development and launch of the Home Condition Survey – a survey that offers buyers a concise and reliable evaluation of their future purchase.

Milstein said: “As an association we have an important role to play in raising awareness among home buyers of the importance of commissioning a survey when making a purchase.

“It is well documented that there is currently a great deal of confusion among consumers, with the majority believing that the lender’s valuation constitutes a survey and eliminates the need for them to commission their own independent and more in-depth survey of a property.

“This is a big area of concern and we have been working closely with our members and the conveyancing community to address this.”
