Yesterday’s UK launch of Propertini, a free portal to agents, could come under threat because of the Agents Mutual model.

Agents who sign up to Agents Mutual must agree to use only one other portal. For example, they could use Rightmove or Zoopla, but not both. The ban would also affect other property portals, for example NeedAProperty.

Yesterday, Ian Springett confirmed to EAT that the ban on more than one other portal would extend to Propertini.

He said: “It would cover Propertini as a competing portal.”

Rhys Davies, of US-backed Propertini, told EAT that they were aware of their competitors.

He said: “From our perspective we are just focused on our goal of providing the best real estate search to support our users’ search.

“We are confident that if we do so, and if we do so by following our principles, then we will be able to help our users find the real estate they are looking for.

“I think we have outlined the way things ought to work and it represents the very best model we can conceive. This has to be what we’re working towards.”

@Corin Ashbee-Waugh - 50+ of whom are free, just begging to be able to list your properties. Of course, you don't have time to add your properties to each or even a few, so get an XML2U feed and get the whole thing automated.

Couldn't agree more with Corin. To date we have had 102 agents submit their XML2U feeds to us.

While the debate rages, there are 350+ portals out there, 50+ of whom are free, just6begging to be able to list your properties. Of course, you don't have time to add your properties to each or even a few, so get an XML2U feed and get the whole thing automated.

Looks like we will all end up on Agents Mutual and Propertini or is that Needaproperty and propertini? We have about 6 months to decide on Needaproperty and 12-18 months on Agents Mutual.

This is the one reason I will not support Agents Mutual, being dictated to about where I can and cannot advertise, whilst paying them for the the privilege, can and will damage my marketing. Or at least it would if I were even contemplating joining them.

I wonder what percentage of your subscription will be spent on policing this policy.

    No Thanks

Blimey, my spelling on that was appalling. But I am sure you get the point.

This is not news. There is a new portal/website/new idea that isn't broadcast on here every week. Most, not all, but most will fail.

I'm tired of hearing about it either way. Any change of some real news?

What is all this about "property portals"?... We're still using carrier pigeons to spread our property advertising!

The exclusivity rules for listing on Agents Mutual don't come into force until it has launched, which is at least 12-18months away. Nothing to stop agents using propertini or needaproperty until then!
