French estate agency Leggett Immobilier has appointed a Briton as its new chief executive.

Graham Downie takes over from another Briton, Trevor Leggett, who founded the company in 1997 and who becomes chairman.

Downie has worked in the UK for companies including Savills, Jackson-Stops & Staff and Chesterton. He moved to France in 2003 where he set up a buying agency.

Leggett Immobilier claims to help one in ten UK purchasers of French properties and was recently voted Best Estate Agency in France. It employs some 200 agents across France.

Leggett said: “Our business has seen huge expansion over the last few years and we certainly have exciting plans for the future.”

In a separate development, another French estate agent has opened a branch in London.

Breteuil has ten offices in Paris which, it says, receive a lot of inquiries and interest in the London market.

The London branch in Fulham Road, Chelsea, has yet to have a website up and running.

However, its French website is tres chic.
