The Electoral Commission wants to enlist the help of estate agents, to remind buyers to register to vote or even giving them electoral registration forms.

The Commission has even gone to the trouble of taking photos of its head of campaigns, Samantha Mills, posed with estate agency signs.

The Commission believes that after younger first-time buyers rushed to beat tomorrow's Stamp Duty deadline they may neglect to have their names put on the local electoral roll.

If they do not do this by April 18 they will have no right to vote in the local elections on May 3.

Research by the Electoral Commission has found that only 14% of people who moved into their home after the annual canvass in autumn 2010 were on the electoral register in April 2011.

Samantha Mills said: “Completing the purchase of a property is undoubtedly a stressful experience for many people and their families. One way estate agents could help is to include a registration form in their welcome packs when they hand over the keys to new property owners.”

Registration forms can be printed off from www.aboutmyvote.co.uk

Well well well, she gets my vbote and she can come round and take my electoral role form any time we can arrange. I will pass on the information only if she does this. All EA's can do is aske but we are unable to force the issue. Jester and Rebel I am with you on this one.

As they charge me £35 for data protection registration and £53 for money laundering, they can pay me £88 for the above. Printed forms I will charge at 50p each (same as Landmark for redacted EPCs).

Otherwise, they can shove their vote in their own slot.
