Connells is to invest £6m next year into growing its survey and valuation arm.

Ross Bowen, managing director of Connells Survey & Valuation, said the firm had already expanded surveying capacity by over 30% in the last 12 months and will take on 100 new surveyors next year.

The business currently already employs 240 in-house surveyors.

The Connells announcement comes after mounting concern about a shortage of chartered surveyors available to undertake mortgage valuations, with delays in busier areas such as the south-east.

Last month, Connells undertook 33% more valuations than in November last year and says Help to Buy is having an impact on activity.
