Congratulations to Dacre Son & Hartley’s director David Phillip, who is celebrating 35 years with the business this month.

David, who was born and bred in Skipton, joined the firm straight from Oundle School as an articled pupil in 1977 and a year later was promoted to assistant valuer.

The business was sold to Abbey National in 1989, the same year that he qualified as an associated of the RICS. He became a fellow of the RICS in 1995 – the same year he helped buy the business back, becoming a director in the process.

He said: “Having worked at Dacres for 35 years, I have seen the firm sold into corporate ownership and then helped to buy it back during a very uncertain economic climate.

“To be a part of a business that has been established for almost 200 years and working within a large team of extremely loyal staff is a real privilege.

“I remain at the ‘coal face’ of the business looking after customers and staff to ensure that maximum levels of services are provided.

“Ours is a well-established Yorkshire company, and I feel very proud to be a part of the team that is working together to ensure the long continuation of a very successful business.

“Employing such a large number of people regionally and delivering on our promises to our clients and shareholders is at the forefront of what I do on a daily basis, and I enjoy it just as much now as when I started out in the business 35 years ago.”

One of the biggest changes David has witnessed during his 35-year career in property is the internet.

He said: “It has revolutionised the way we do business, but another big development during my career was the incorporation of floor plans in sales details – I supported a new business called Making Plans 25 years ago who came up with the idea and we were the first business to include them on our particulars.

“Making Plans is now used by numerous agents nationally and internationally.”

Dacre Son & Hartley’s managing director Jonathan Isles said: “David symbolises everything that is great about our business: his knowledge and experience are unrivalled and his dedication and enthusiasm to our clients is unsurpassed.

“He has lived and breathed property his whole life and the business benefits greatly from his enthusiasm and drive.”

    Congratulations

35 years with one company is an exceptional record and well worthy of praise.

Like me, you obviously started when you were three!

    Well done, Mr Phillip!

I sincerely doubt that anyone who entered the Estate Agency anywhere around or after 2000 will still be working within it in 2035!

Your longevity speaks volumes about your character as a person.

B@lls (...and nerves...) of steel; heart of a lion and patience of a Saint, methinks!

    Congratulations!

Many congratulations David. We were both quite a bit younger when I worked at Dacres but it was a pleasure to know you then and I wish you continuing success.
